Cairoli and Tixier Take Victory in Sicily
By Nikki Scott | 09 Feb 2014

Round two of the Italian Motocross Championship (Internazionale d’Italia) took place today at the circuit of Noto in Sicily, Italy. Hailing from Sicily, it was a win of sentiment for our seven-time World Champion Antonio Cairoli as he went for the second time this year unbeaten in both races. Meanwhile his Red Bull KTM Factory teammate Jordi Tixier did a remarkable job in the MX2 taking home the MX2 race victory and finishing as the best placed MX2 rider in the Elite in seventh.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli is looking flawless this year. The Sicilian led the biggest class for the second time this season from start to finish to cross the line fifteen seconds ahead of Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jeremy Van Horebeek. Meanwhile proving he could be this season’s dark horse Red Bull IceOne Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Todd Waters held off his more experienced teammate Tyla Rattray for third.

In the MX2, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jordi Tixier led every lap from start to finish to take his first pre-season race victory this year. Meanwhile behind him, Yamaha Factory Racing’s Christophe Charlier came home in a solid second place while CLS Kawasaki Monster Energy’s Alessandro Lupino fought hard from outside the top ten to come home in third.

In the Elite it was the hometown hero Antonio Cairoli who bought it home for his fans when he took the holeshot and checked out to win eighteen seconds ahead of Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jeremy Van Horebeek. Rounding out the top three for his second podium finish of the day, Red Bull IceOne Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Todd Waters put in yet another solid performance to take home third.
