OHMAN BECOMES SNOWCROSS WORLD CHAMPION AT HOME MALA
By Daniele Rizzi | 04 Apr 2008

The FIM Snowcross World Championship series ended last weekend at Mala, central Sweden, with home rider Emil Ohman taking his maiden World Title at the end of moto one, which he won.

The works Lynx rider made the crown stay in Sweden for the third consecutive year, as countryman and team mate Peter Ericson was the Champion in the previous two years. The latter unfortunately sat out of this final round as he was again sick, like at the opening round.

Emil Ohman celebrated the Championship win at the end of heat one

On the Tjamstanbacken Mala circuit, Ohman took an impressive win in the opening moto, as he was starting from the bottom of the top ten and had to work his way up to the lead. Niko Korsumaeki took a solid second ahead of Finnish countryman Viktor Herten. Marcus Evensson and Fredrik Granberg rounded off the top five while Viktor Stenman took a disappointing twelfth.

At the start to the second heat only one battle was left, with Stenman and Korsumaeki due to fight tooth and nail for the runner up spot in the Championship.

Korsumaeki made a mistake and was forced to restart from the back of the group while Stenman took the lead and ran away with it. The latter won the moto from Janne Jurvelin and Jussi Honka. Korsumaeki tried his very hardest to make it up into the top four but could not do better than fifth. This meant he had to give the second place in the Championship up to Stenman, who secured the position by just one point. Emil Ohman did not finish.

In the overall Korsumaeki took a bitter victory, ending the season with the same result as in 2007. Jurvelin and Stenman rounded off the podium with Viktor Herten and Fredrik Granberg rounding off the top five.

The Championship was won by Ohman, from Stenman and Korsumaeki. Herten and Biti rounded off the top five.
