FUNCHAL (Portugal), 28 February 2014 - Since Youthstream took over the rights to the Snowcross World Championship in 2011 they have strived to push Snowcross to a whole new level. This year, the championship was supposed to be held over two rounds, one in Skelleftea, Sweden and the other in Tuuri, Finland. Unfortunately, due to climate changes, there is currently no snow in Tuuri, Finland, meaning the second round of the 2014 FIM Snowcross World Championship has been cancelled. Nevertheless, Youthstream and the FIM are proud to announce the round of Skelleftea, Sweden, will go on and a Women’s division has also been included.

Skelleftea is a small Swedish town known for its long, cold yet glorious snow filled winters and is located 800 kilometers north of the capital city (Stockholm) and 200 kilometers south of the amazing Artic Circle. It will be the first time in history Skelleftea has hosted a round of the FIM Snowcross World Championship and with more than twenty-five percent of Snowcross racers hailing from Sweden, the atmosphere is bound to be buzzing.

Last year’s FIM Snowcross World Champion Adam Renheim proved earlier this year he’s still carrying good form after winning a Swedish Championship race ahead of fellow Swedish talent Oskar Norum. Next weekend Renheim will line up in Skelleftea for the 2014 FIM Snowcross World Championship with the number ‘1’ plate firmly attached to his Skidoo machine all set to defend his crown.

Meanwhile Swedish Oskar Norum will have his home nation behind him as he aims to improve on his fourth place finish last year. While Finland’s Aki Pihlaja is doing his best to climb the ranks after his seventh in 2011, sixth in 2012 and fifth in 2013.

Swedish Filip Eriksson will line up on his Artic Cat snowmobile carrying his 2013 FIM Snowcross World Championship ranking, number six. While another Swede in the form of Markus Ogemar-Hellgren, who finished seventh last year, will also be hungry for a podium finish.

Now with great facilities, an impressive track, exciting racing as well as excellent HD coverage, the FIM Snowcross World Championship continues to grow and move forward. In addition, for the first time ever a Women’s Snowcross World Cup has been introduced and will also be taking place along side the men of the FIM Snowcross World Championship, making for one of the greatest FIM Snowcross World Championships ever.
