Renheim and Öhman take pole in Skellefteå

SKELLEFTEÅ (Sweden), 08 March 2014 - Practice and qualifying kicked off yesterday in Skellefteå, Sweden for the FIM Snowcross World Championship. Thanks to the unusual climate at this time of year, snow had to be imported to build the track, which proved to be extra challenging this year due to the glorious sunshine and warm six-degree temperatures.
Looking to be this year’s hottest contenders, the reigning Snowcross World Champion, Sweden’s own Adam Renheim topped the charts in qualifying group A, ahead of fellow Swedes Emil Öhman and Oskar Norum. Meanwhile in qualifying Group B it was Nisse Kjellström to take pole, only half a second slower than the current World Champ Renheim. Marcus Johansson and Kristoffer Holm rounded out Group B’s top three.
Renheim is feeling confident to take his second consecutive FIM Snowcross World Title this weekend admitting, “I would like to defend my title from last year and after today´s free practices I see it’s possible. This will be a unique opportunity to become world champion in one race, so I´m expecting that many riders will give their best on the track. This kind of track fits me, as we have a lot of opportunities to pass each other and I hope for nice battles.”
In the FIM Women’s Snowcross World Cup, which is also taking place this weekend in Skellefteå, the hot favorite Swedish Elina Öhman is already looking like a safe bet for the win after she set the fastest lap time in practice, almost three seconds faster than the next best rider Norway’s Marlene Anderson. Top qualifier Öhman said “The track was changing today very quickly, making it extremely bumpy. I really like these conditions and I hope for sunshine and more bumps tomorrow. I´m one of the favorites so I hope to defend my reputation”
